In this talk we will discuss the newest additions to Nx (the Numerical Elixir ecosystem), with focus on computation and data sharding.
Initial sharding work took place in the beginning of 2026 and allows computations to take advantage of all GPUs and CPUs in a given computer. We will discuss what the impact of this and how it ties into the larger ecosystem.
Key takeaways:
- People that watch this talk will learn more about what computation and data sharding is.
- The talk will also provide an overview of Nx and the ecosystem for contextualization.
- The goal is to plant seeds for people to create novel things with the newest Nx features and backends such as EXLA, EMLX and NxEigen.
Target audience:
- This talk is mainly focused on people with Numerical Computing or Machine Learning interests. People that are interested in embedded computing should also be interested, because one of the goals is to showcase how different backends can be used in tandem through Handoff.
